The Power of ThoughtDid you know that there is an internal dialogue happening constantly within your mind? Do you know what it's saying? Do you know that this internal chatter can, will - and does - shape the events of your life? Do you realise that you have the potential for incredible change by changing your conscious and unconscious "chatter" and the words you speak?It is said that we have around 50,000 thoughts a day! That 90% of those thoughts are repetitive and 75% are negative. So think about it, if you tell yourself you can't do something, then sure enough you can't. Your thoughts and emotions are creating your next moments - this is why it's so important to watch your thoughts and your words. Your mind never stops working - 24/7, even while you sleep your mind is active - and if you have difficulty sleeping sometimes, you'll know all about that! It's as if those inner thought processes just won't switch off enough to allow you to relax. Listening to a hypnosis relaxation is usually all you need to resolve the problem - it allows your muscles to relax and your mind to let go. While taking time out during the day to practise hypnosis is most beneficial, if you really are strapped for time then play a recording when you get into bed. Inability to sleep is usually just a question of retraining the response 'to sleep' and can be quickly corrected. Have you ever noticed that when you feel tired how you keep affirming to yourself, with your inner self-chatter, how tired you feel? Perhaps a friend phones you and they ask how you are? You tell them how tired you're feeling… and without even realising it, you've created a thought - response - thought loop that keeps you stuck in the undesired feeling. This doesn't mean that you ought to deny what you're feeling however many of us fall into the same trap of perpetuating a problem rather than changing it. For some people negative thinking becomes a habit - I've observed people who constantly speak about all the problems they have without realizing that if they began to think differently their world would change as if by magic. We often stick with these negative ways of thinking because it's what we know best! Perhaps you're questioning whether your thoughts need to change, if so just ask yourself these questions:
Most people will answer "No" to some of these questions, in which case why not give it a go - change your thoughts around that particular area and just see what happens. You'll most probably need to stick at it for a month or two, after which time your new way of thinking will probably become a newly formed habit (within the subconscious) and from there things can only get better! So where do we go from here to create that incredible change and the outcomes we desire? Follow these 4 steps to power-up your thinking:
You'll notice that the above tips also deal with stress and anxiety. When we're feeling calm and our mind is as still as a pool of clear water, then we become more productive, more 'open', are able to feel loving, tolerant and compassionate and communicate better with everyone with whom we come into contact. It takes time to change our old ways of thinking and there'll be times when we slip back into them - that's okay, we have the gift of awareness (something to be grateful for!) and the tools to put us back on track. (Such as make every minute a self-help minute!) Over time this new way of being becomes second nature and when times challenge us, as they do in life, we'll be better equipped to deal with and move on from them.
